On Saturday February 29, 2020, there was a massive ice storm which affected shoreline communities along Lake Erie. One of those communities was Port Stanley, Ontario which is a short drive away from London, Ontario.
I had seen on The Weather Network and on social media that the pier and waterfront had been covered completely in an thick layer of ice. So on Sunday, I got in my car and took a drive to take a look for myself.
Once I had parked the car, I walked along the channel until I reached the pathway leading to the main pier. At first I didn’t see anything but as I got closer I could see that the gate leading to the pier was completed frozen solid.
It seemed like every surface including the ground had been encased in a thick layer of solid ice. The benches, lamp posts and railings had all been covered completely.
When I looked through a small opening in the gate it looked like a frozen wasteland straight out of Game of Thrones. I thought an army of white walkers would appear suddenly in the distance lol.
I am really glad that I went to witness this amazing weather event as it was truly incredible.
